The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office on Friday released a nearly four-minute edited and narrated video that shows surveillance and body-worn camera footage from when a deputy shot an armed man who was running away in south Sacramento in March. The video shows the man, identified as Marquis Chapple, facing away from the officer when shot twice as he ran away from the deputy. Family speaks out after deadly head-on crash kills 4 in Tuolumne County

The family of 33-year-old Janelle Hall said they are heartbroken and angry following a head-on crash in Tuolumne County last week that claimed four lives, including Hall. The California Highway Patrol said just after 5 p.m. on Friday, May 31, the driver of a pickup truck driving northbound on Bonds Flat Road crossed over the yellow centerline to pass another vehicle while going more than 100 miles per hour. While he approached La Grange Road, CHP says the driver crashed head-on with Hall’s Toyota Highlander. The pickup truck had three people inside. All four people involved in the crash died at the scene. Hall’s sisters-in-law Romy Walton and Erin Vereschagin spoke to KCRA 3 on behalf of their brother, Hall’s husband, and the rest of the family. They said Hall was killed only about 10 minutes away from her home while driving to get her kids from an after school program. Stockton tests out AI-equipped cameras as they face a code enforcement officer shortage

The city of Stockton will soon begin using cameras equipped with artificial intelligence to identify blight violations, as they face a shortage of code enforcement officers. This week, the Stockton City Council approved a one-year partnership with City Detect, an Alabama-based company that will help identify code violations such as boarded windows, overgrown lawns, graffiti, and cars parked on unapproved surfaces. A total of nine cameras will be installed on code enforcement vehicles, and the officers will go about their days as normal; however, at the end of the day, the photographs will be downloaded and analyzed to identify the violation.
