Oakland – Artistic students from twelve middle and high schools across OUSD will be in Downtown Oakland on Saturday to showcase their creations and sell them to eager buyers. It’s all part of the 2023 Youth Creative Expo. The twelve schools include Fremont High, Frick United Academy of Language, Oakland High, Oakland International High, Oakland Tech, Madison Park Academy Secondary, and Skyline High and will have students selling their works of art and unveiling public projects. Much of it will be in the windows of Old Oakland in a 9th Street block party, a wonderful celebration of the creative work happening in Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) schools.
The OUSD artists will not be alone. The Expo will feature a wide variety of vendors and businesses including 20 Oakland creative industry and community collaborators, 30 Old Oakland restaurants and merchants, and hundreds of OUSD and Peralta Colleges students. Multimedia installations will be on display, artwork and wares will be on sale, and there will be other attractions, food, and activities for all ages.
The Expo is a co-production with partners Civic Design Studio, E14 Gallery, Old Oakland Merchants, and OUSD’s Arts, Media & Entertainment Pathways, and will showcase Oakland’s creative industry through its schools and youth: visual art, design, architecture, urban planning, building, digital innovation, photography, fashion and more. The event is free to the public and will be the perfect opportunity to pick up one-of-a-kind items.
