Sacramento woman accused of assaulting toddler mid-flight

A Sacramento woman is accused of assaulting a 2-year-old child while on a flight to Seattle, a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office read. Breanna Mistler, 33, was seen by multiple passengers on the flight kicking the child and, at one point, shaking the child “like a rag doll,” the release read. This began when the child, sitting in the window seat, woke up Mistler, who was in the aisle seat. The release said passengers tried to intervene and stop Mistler, but she continued. Officials detained Mistler when the Delta flight from Mexico landed in the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on May 1. They noticed multiple bruises on the toddler. Child Protective Services is working to place the child with a relative. Judge Brian Tsuchida cited concerns about the child “because (Mistler) had committed the assaults in front of so many people on a lengthy plane trip,” the release read. Mistler has a hearing on May 16. Assistant United States Attorney Carolyn Forstein is handling the case. Both the FBI and the Port of Seattle are also investigating the assault. Details on the relationship between the woman and the child were not released.
