Oakland Mayor, City Council Should Pass Emergency Ordinance, Fire Police Officers In Sex Scandal

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and The Oakland City Council should grow a pair and Draft then pass an emergency ordinance, firing all Oakland Police Officers involved in the sex scandal, yet still employed.

Lest you think this can’t be done, a wee lesson in your Oakland City Charter is in order. Section 213 allows the Oakland City Council to create an emergency ordinance whenever it’s found that the public safety is in question. Anytime the public feels powerless over its own police department, that should be cause for not just alarm, but action.

Right now, three Oakland Police Officers have been promoted who were involved in the sex scandal, and the new Oakland Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick has approved and then supported their elevation. This leaves the public feeling helpless and elected officials looking toothless. We can change that, and must do so. Now. via IFTTT
