‘They’re killing people’: Families of fentanyl poisoning victims push for more criminal convictions

Law enforcement agencies and criminal justice departments in Northern California are increasing their focus on fentanyl poisonings, which continues to claim lives across the region. Just this week, Citrus Heights police arrested 34-year-old Collin Holcomb for homicide in a deadly fentanyl sales case from February. Detectives said he sold fentanyl to 33-year-old Bradley Mitchell. Mitchell was found dead near Madison Avenue and Sunrise Boulevard in the afternoon of February 15. Families who have lost loved ones to fentanyl poisonings gathered for a fentanyl awareness event Saturday outside Muscle Systems Gym in West Sacramento. The organization Drug Included Homicide had a tent set up at the event. Northern California representative Mareka Cole said she was pleased to hear about the Citrus Heights case arrest. Several agencies have responded to a grass fire in San Joaquin County on Saturday that has burned hundreds of acres. Cal Fire’s website shows the blaze has spread 946 acres and is 40% contained. A NASA satellite captured a view of California’s largest freshwater lake appearing emerald green earlier this month. The striking image of Clear Lake from May 15 showed the effects of a spring algal bloom. Water researchers are used to it. Angela De Palma-Dow works for the water resources department of Lake County and for the watershed protection district. She also answers questions about the lake in her “Lady of the Lake” column for the Lake County News. De Palma-Dow said she’s been getting calls about the NASA photo and explained that green algae is important to the ecosystem and helps support the lake’s world-class fishing status. On Thursday, the group partnered with United Latinos to promote a $500,000 commercial electric lawn and garden equipment program for landscapers.
