Teen arrested after stolen vehicle pursuit seriously injures other driver, Elk Grove police say

A stolen vehicle pursuit left a person seriously injured Monday night, the Elk Grove Police Department said. Officers arrested a teenage driver in connection. Elk Grove police said it was chasing the stolen vehicle before it crashed into another car at Laguna Park Drive and Franklin Boulevard. The driver hit by the stolen vehicle was not involved at all and was sent to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Firefighters urge water safety to avoid Northern California triple-digit heat

Tuesday is forecast to be the first 100-degree day of the year for Northern California, bringing elevated wildfire risk because of winds accompanying the heat. Meteorologist Kelly Curran said that compared to Monday’s high temperature of 84 degrees, Tuesday will feel like a drastic leap reaching 101 degrees. The average for this time of year is 84 degrees. KCRA 3 Reporter Leticia Ordaz said firefighters are prepared for more people to escape the heat by heading to the waterways. She said crews are urging people to stay sober and wear a lifejacket when on the water to help reduce water rescues on a day when more fires are likely to happen. Cal Fire crews fighting 2 fires, preparing for hot and windy weather ahead

Cal Fire crews responded to Patterson Pass Road outside of Tracy on Monday for a grass fire. It burned nearly 100 acres. As of Monday night, the fire was 75% contained. “(This fire was) another situation where we could have been in for a long night,” said Cal Fire spokesperson Josh Silveira. Silveira said equipment stationed at the Corral Fire nearby deployed quickly, helping fire crews get an early grasp on the flames. Paramedics rescue baby from a car in Sacramento, sheriff’s office says

Sacramento sheriff’s deputies say a man is in custody after paramedics rescued a baby from a car. Terrell Marzetta, 33, approached a woman and her baby on Saturday afternoon at a grocery store parking lot in south Sacramento, the sheriff’s office said. Marzetta is the baby’s father and the woman agreed to give her ex-boyfriend a ride. Once in the car, however, he pulled out a knife and threatened the woman, deputies said. She pulled over into a liquor store parking lot and ran to get help. Meanwhile, Marzetta drove off with the child, the sheriff’s office said. A Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District paramedic unit saw the whole thing happen from the parking lot and followed the car.
