2 students hurt in Butte County school shooting, suspected gunman dead

A suspected gunman is dead, and two students are in the hospital after a shooting Wednesday at a Butte County elementary school, officials said. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said they got a 911 call around 1 p.m. about a shooting at the Feather River Adventist School near Palermo. When deputies got to the campus, they found a man believed to be the shooter with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. That man is dead. Deputies also found two students with gunshot wounds, the sheriff’s office said. They are now in the hospital with unknown injuries. It broke out just before 2:30 at a home along Sunrise Greens Drive near Florin High School. Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies actually spotted the fire first. Lost hiker rescued near Mount Tallac in El Dorado County

A lost hiker was rescued near the top of Mount Tallac in the Sierra. Tahoe search and rescue said the first call came in around midnight on Thursday. They said the hiker wasn’t prepared for the cold temperatures and couldn’t find their way down the snowy trail. The rescue team said there were several inches of snow on the trail and very slick conditions. First known U.S. case of more severe mpox strain reported in California

The California Department of Public Health reported the first known case in the U.S. of an emerging mpox strain on Saturday.
