Black History Month 2026: NFL Hired No Black Head Coaches vs Roger Goodell’s Dad Charles’s LegacySomething everyone believed was in the bast was the NFL’s discrimination against African American personnel, particularly coaches and players. Black quarterbacks were held back, and where they did see the field as recently as a few years ago, it was because they either had a cannon arm or ran like a gazelle. Only over the past few years have we need black QBs who are just field generals like their white teammates. The last rung of the ladder toward equality was being a head coach.It looked like the NFL was making giant progress in that area, too. But this time out of a record 10 openings, none were filled by black coaches and all of them are more than well qualified. Take David Shaw: set the record for wins by a Stanford Football Coach, and won the Pac-12 Championship three times. There was a period where Stanford all-but-owned the Pac-12, and that was due to David Shaw. Now, he gets a passing game coordinator job with the Lions. The offiensive coodinator gets ired, and so the question is, will Shaw be back – even though he made former Cal Golden Bear a better quarterback.There are other examples, but all of this is happening while Goodell is NFL Commissioner. Roger Goodell is the son of Congressman Charles Goodell. Charles Goodell had no problem walking with black leaders for civil rights. And he signed civil rights legislation at a time when it was not popular for a Republican to do so, He also became the only Republican to vote against the Vietnam War.So why can’t Roger follow in his Dad’s footsteps and demand the hire of folks like David Shaw? What’s going on where it looks like President Trump has Goodell eating out of his hand.About Roger’s Dad, Grantland wrote “What Charlie Goodell did then was … change. There were electoral considerations behind it: Goodell now repped a big, mostly liberal state versus a conservative House district. But Goodell’s conversion also had a Jimmy Stewart quality to it. It was a dawning of conscience supported by a not-small amount of political naivete. “He was what was called a progressive Republican,” says former vice-president Walter Mondale, who served with Goodell in the Senate. “They don’t exist anymore.”Does that explain Roger’s current, apparent “In Trump’s Pocket” behavior? Black America needs Roger Goodell to be his father and the sooner the better.

We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved.
