Reacting To The Royal Wedding With A Modern Slave Mentally Is Wrongheaded
Some of my folks, black friends, have expressed a rather sad reaction to the 2018 Royal Wedding: one friend posted this: “500 years of worldwide oppression being countered by a wedding with someone down the food chain to be King…yeah that answers it all”. And in response to my video explaining why the 2018 Royal Wedding is positive history for African Americans and for interracial families. What he expressed was a slave mentally : reaching back to the past as a reason to ignore the images of progress, today. I wonder if my friend has a hard time celebrating other blacks who have made it? I don’t. In order to not be left behind the waves of progress, we have to not fear to swim in them.
