May 17 on The Story: Starting at the beginning of next year, Portland will have a whole new government structure and a radically different slate of elected officials to lead it. It’s such a big change that the current city council, at the urging of Mayor Ted Wheeler, is doing something of a soft launch for the new system on July 1. Leading the transition will be Michael Jordan (not that Michael Jordan), previously the city’s chief administrative officer and now the interim city administrator — filling perhaps the most pivotal role in the system that voters approved with the 2022 charter reform measure.
