United Airlines: ‘Body was found in the wheel well’

It was an unsettling and tragic discovery on Christmas Eve when the body of a dead man was discovered inside the wheel well of a United Airlines flight from Chicago after landing on Maui. The incident remains under investigation, but Jay VonBrimer, a veteran pilot said there are procedures in place to prevent exactly this type of thing from happening.

College football’s early National Signing Day kicked off Wednesday, opening a three-day window for high school seniors to make their commitments official.

Several of Hawai’i’s top talents inked their agreements, including a handful heading to Power Five programs.

Leading the way was Campbell quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, the state’s top-ranked recruit and Cover2 Marcus Mariota Award winner as the Player of the Year. Sagapolutele, a four-star prospect and Hawai’i’s all-time career passing leader, signed with Oregon, flipping from verbal commitment that he made to the Golden Bears in July.

A few other island prep standouts that signed on Wednesday are Aiden Manutai of Kahuku to California, Mana Carvalho from Kahuku to Utah, Punahou’s Ko’o Kia and Donte Utu to Notre Dame and Stanford respectively and Kini McMillan from Mililani to Washington.

Hawaii football builds 2025 recruiting class on early signing day

The University of Hawai’i football team officially welcomed the first members of its 2025 recruiting class on Wednesday during National Signing Day, marking the first opportunity for Class of 2025 commitments to make their college choices official.

Headlining the Rainbow Warriors’ class are several local standouts, including Saint Louis running back/receiver Titan Lacaden, Campbell offensive lineman Jordan Kernaghan, Mililani linebacker Aisiah Paogofie, wide receiver Brandon Gaea, and Farrington linebacker Zaden Mariteragi.

Lacaden, the 2024 Cover2 Kaulukukui Award winner as the state’s Offensive Player of the Year, recently helped lead Saint Louis to the Open Division state championship. His versatility as both a running back and receiver adds a dynamic weapon to the Rainbow Warriors’ future roster.

Signing Day comes on the heels of head coach Timmy Chang securing a one-year contract extension on Monday, keeping him under contract through the 2026 season. Chang’s team finished 5-7 in 2024, closing the season with an impressive 38-30 Senior Night victory over New Mexico.

The Rainbow Wahine (21-9), champions of the Big West Conference, are making their 42nd overall NCAA Tournament appearance and their 31st consecutive trip to the postseason.

This marks the second straight year and third time in the last six seasons that UH has been placed in a subregional hosted by Oregon.
