The University of Hawai’i women’s basketball team returns home this week on a five-game winning streak, aiming to make history with a record-setting homestand at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Wahine (11-6, 5-2 Big West) have turned up their defensive intensity, holding opponents to an average of just 45 points per game during their streak. Over the past five games, UH has forced an average of 15 turnovers per contest while logging 35 steals.

This week, Hawai’i faces two of the Big West’s top contenders, UC Davis (12-6, 6-2) on Thursday and UC Irvine (12-5, 6-1) on Saturday. The latter matchup will serve as the centerpiece of Beeman’s Bigger Bash, a highly anticipated event in which UH aims for the program’s first-ever stand-alone sellout.

The University of Hawai‘i men’s volleyball team continued its season-opening homestand with a dominant three-set victory over Harvard on Wednesday night at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Warriors cruised to a 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 win, improving to 3-0 on the season.

Freshman outside hitter Kainoa Wade made his collegiate debut in the victory. The son of UH head coach Charlie Wade, Kainoa recorded 8 kills, with no errors and two blocks. A blue-chip recruit and reigning state player of the year, Wade graduated high school early to join the team but was unable to play in Hawai‘i’s season-opening wins over McKendree due to NCAA clearance delays. He was cleared to play just before Wednesday’s match.

The PGA Tour’s Sony Open in Hawai‘i, the first full-field tournament of the 2025 season, begins Thursday at Waialae Country Club. Among the competitors is Kaimukī graduate and 2006 HHSAA state champion Chan Kim, the state’s lone PGA Tour member.

This week’s appearance marks Kim’s 51st career PGA Tour event. The three-time top-10 finisher has played Waialae twice before but has yet to make it past the cut.

“Obviously, it’s just great to be back home,” Kim said. “I used to play right across the street, and it’s always special to come back and play the Sony Open. Hopefully, I’ll make the cut this year. It’s my third time around, so I’m hoping to get something going.”
