Saints Jameis Winston Said Tampa Bay Bucs LBs Planned To Take Him Out Of The Game
Ok. Finally someone said what we, you and I, already knew: that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Linebackers had a plan to take Jameis Winston out of the much-anticipated contest pitting his old team against his new organization, the New Orleans Saints, with him, the Bucs once franchise signal caller, playing against them, and on Sunday Night Football, to top it all off.
It was Tom Brady versus Jameis Winston for NFC South Supremacy, and Winston proved every bit the equal of Tom Brady, guiding his Saints to a 7-all tie. Winston, deep in his own territory, ran left to avoid the rush of the Bucs’ blitz, and was caught, then horse-collar tackled by Tampa’s 2018 NFL Draft 1st Round Pick Devin White. The result was a torn ACL. But rather than fold, the action angered the Saints Defense and the Bucs, with Trevor Siemian at the controls for Winston, won the contest going away, 36 to 27.
Reacting to the injury to his old quarterback, Bucs teammate Antoine Whitfield made fun of him by using the “Eating A W” symbol Jameis is known for. In all, it looked like the Bucs were trying to get Winston out of the game.
In a video made by Jonathan Barnes and placed on Twitter, it sounded like Jameis Winston realized that’s what was going on during the game. “I heard, during the huddle, ‘You or me? You or me gonna take Jameis out'”, Winston said. Then Jameis swore he heard Tom Brady say “Let’s f-in go” – with Jameis making his voice squeak as he imitated Brady.
Overall, its clear Winston, as he said, wanted to finish the game, and the thought of facing the Bucs and getting revenge is foremost on his mind.
Compared to last year’s squad, this 2022 Saints version has the look of a true champion. Not completely new, it has added the right players at the right positions to realize, at least on computer, a truly better team. With new pass catchers the veteran Jarvis Landry and the fleet rookie Chris Olave teamed with the returning-from-injury man they call “Can’t Guard Mike”, Michael Thomas, and working in a ball-control passing offense, the Saints’ promise to give the Bucs D fits this year, and to complement its powerful defense.
Many are picking Jameis Winston to be “Comeback Player of The Year” for 2022. But from his words, it’s very clear Mr. Winston wants to do more than just come back. He wants to eat, and eat well.
Stay tuned.
