One of the organizations investing in Hilltop is Hilltop Artists. The 30-year-old nonprofit glass-blowing studio has taken countless students under its wing, using glass blowing as a diversion for teens. Court docs: Woman was killed in Renton then her body was left in Mexico

A 61-year-old man was charged with murder in connection to the killing of a Renton hair salon owner in February. Reyna Hernandez, 54, was killed on Feb. 26 and her body was found days later at a cemetery in Mexico. Her former partner, Louie Hernandez, was charged with first-degree murder, according to court documents from the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Louie Hernandez is still being held in a federal facility in Mexico, but officials are working to extradite him to face trial in King County. He is being held on $5 million bail. A second suspect was arrested for a deadly shooting outside a Thurston County bar in April after detectives obtained dashcam video from the suspect’s vehicle. The wife of Curtis Gibson was arrested on conspiracy for murder In the first degree on Monday, May 6. She has not been officially charged. Her bail was set at $1 million. Her arraignment is scheduled for May 21. Curtis Gibson was previously charged with first-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on April 30. He is being held without bail. In June 1984, 42-year-old Judith “Judy” Weaver was killed inside her home on Rucker Avenue. Officials said they initially responded to her home for a report of a fire and found her inside. Mitchell Gaff, 61, was arrested last week and booked on suspicion of a number of charges, including aggravated first-degree murder. Boeing firefighters picket outside Renton facility amid contract dispute

Boeing has locked out its private force of firefighters who protect its aircraft-manufacturing plants in the Seattle area and brought in replacements after the latest round of negotiations with the firefighters’ union failed to deliver an agreement on wages. The company said Saturday that it locked out about 125 firefighters and a facility about 170 miles (275 kilometers) away in central Washington. The firefighters serve as first responders to fires and medical emergencies and can call in help from local fire departments. “Despite extensive discussions through an impartial federal mediator, we did not reach an agreement with the union,” Boeing said in a statement. “We have now locked out members of the bargaining unit and fully implemented our contingency plan with highly qualified firefighters performing the work of (union) members.” Read the full story here: https://ift.tt/VFY4BTi

Teens organize first-ever Cinco de Mayo parade in Mount Vernon

Thirty-five percent of the population in Mount Vernon are Hispanic, and on this Cinco de Mayo, a group of teens came together to organize the first-ever parade for the holiday in their city. Unfortunately, soaking rain dumped from the skies throughout the event, and unseasonably low temperatures created a chill. “But we’re still here!” said Ashley Zuniga, a Mount Vernon High School senior who helped organize the parade with her community service group, Latinos in Action.
