Michelin is out with its first California guide, and 59 Bay Area restaurants earned the coveted stars that signify fine-dining excellence. That’s the most ever for this region. In last autumn’s Bay Area/Wine Country guide, 57 restaurants had stars. But three new ones joined at the one-star level this week — Maum in Palo Alto, and Angler and Sorrel in San Francisco — and a one-star restaurant, Aster, closed. That gives the region 59.
