Jon Gruden, Oakland Raiders Head Coach To Be, Backed Avis Davidson Black Republican For Tampa City

Jon Gruden, Oakland Raiders Head Coach To Be, Backed Avis Davidson Black Republican For Tampa City Council

Jon Gruden, Oakland Raiders Head Coach to be, not only is listed as a registered Republican, but also has been active in supporting GOP candidates even for local office. Indeed, from my research to date, which I admit has not been extensive, I have been able to determine that Gruden is far more active in politics than his would-be predecessor Jack Del Rio – save for the fact that both are Republican.

Del Rio’s GOP leanings came out twice: in his Twitter-based defense of Fox News Commentator Sean Hannity May 24th 2017, and in Del Rio’s wife Linda’s tweet that she “regrets” voting for Donald Trump. (And we have to ask if Coach Del Rio talked her into that pick, since he’s apparently such a fan of the right-wing Sean Hannity?) Beyond that, there’s no obvious listing for the pair in the area of political donations and fundraiders.

But that’s not true for Jon Gruden.

ESPN Analyst Jon Gruden held a fundraiser for an African American former school teacher, who’s also Republican, Avis Davidson, in 2016. Ms. Davidson ran for an open seat on the Tampa Bay City Council. To help her raise money, the Gruden’s, Jon and Cindy, held an event at their home Thursday, September 8th, 2016. Their, the Grudens’ raised $8,000 for Ms. Davidson’s campaign. Unfortunately, she lost a very close race for the spot by just 65 votes – and even though she was out-raised by her opponents, Gruden’s star-power gave her great visibility. But the fact here is Jon Gruden has been active in helping GOP party election hopefuls seek office, regardless of color.

Why is this important? To ask that at a time just after the NFL Protests is a real head-scratcher. It opens up a lot of questions: given the political leanings of Gruden and Del Rio, is the National Football League, in total, a sports organization that consists of mostly white GOP-favoring head coaches directing mostly black Democrat-leaning players? Is the reason why the Rooney Rule (which says that an NFL team must interview a minority coach for a head coach or assistant coach position) given only lip service because of a buddy system where white, conservative, coaches back their friends – unless they happen to know of a black coach who’s Republican?

All of those questions are on the table. Given that Diddy, Step Curry, and Colin Kaepernick want to buy the Carolina Panthers to combat institutional racism, this information becomes supremely important.

Oakland Stray Dog Found In The Rain, Needs Home – January 3, 2018

Oakland Stray Dog Found In The Rain, Needs Home – January 3, 2018

I saw this posted on the Oakland Glenview listserv, and by a Ms. Diane Hernek at dhernek@yahoo.com – just about 15 minutes ago.

She writes:

Please share on NextDoor and other groups.

My neighbors and I picked up a dog this afternoon that’s been running stray for at least a day. I checked the Oakland Lost and Found Pets pages and craigslist and have not found any posts of him. No collar or tags. No microchip.

He’s around 15-20 lbs, black in color, (young?) adult, and looks like a Chihuahua and Dachshund mix. It took a little doing to get him, but now that he knows he’s safe he’s wagging his tail and seeking affection. He’ll stay here for the night, but I cannot keep him. Please spread the word in case his people are searching. He’s a very nice little dog. Glad to have him in out of the rain.

Thanks,

Jon Gruden Oakland Raiders Head Coach To Be Is Republican Picked Romney Over President Obama In 2012

Jon Gruden, the Oakland Raiders Head Coach Candidate who’s caused a stir in Raider Nation over his much desired and anticipated return to the Silver and Black since he left in the year 2002, returns a different and more politically active man.

According to political records that anyone can see without paying a fee, Jon David Gruden is registered member of the Republican party by voting record.

Voterrecords.com describes Jon David Gruden as 54 years old and “affiliated with the Republican Party. He is a white, non hispanic male registered to vote in Hillsborough County, Florida.” Moreover, it has him as registered to vote as Republican since 1989.

And the website of the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) has “Jon David Gruden” listed in black and white and with the words “ESPN Sports Analyst” who lives in Tampa, Florida, and having donated to the campaign of Mitt Romney / Paul Ryan for President, twice, in 2012, and for a total of $600.

That means Jon Gruden backed Mitt Romney for President over the incumbent, the popular Democrat, President Barack Obama in 2012. The same year, he gave $2,500 to the campaign of George Allen, Jr, for U.S. Senate (which I can understand for one reason: Bruce Allen was Gruden’s boss with the Oakland Raiders as Senior Assistant. Mr. Allen is also a friend of mine, even though I’m a registered Democrat. In that instance, I would have helped Bruce Allen’s brother if Bruce asked me to. But I would have not done so for President Trump or Mitt Romney, as I’m a stanched supporter of and volunteer for President Obama.)

Those are the only politically-related listings I have found for Jon Gruden, but I thought it was importanrt to see in light of the whole Rooney Rule discussion, and Coach Gruden’s naming two white offensive and defensive coordinators with less than stellar 2017 campaigns as his desired coordinators for the Raiders engagement, even before he was hired.

The Rooney Rule, which says that an NFL team is to at least interview one minority head coaching candidate before a coaching hiring decision is made, was established in 2003. Gruden was not impacted by it at the time as he was already coach of the Tampa Bay Bucaneers and won Super Bowl XXXVII. What does he think of the Rooney Rule? From my perspective, he may have already answered that question with his comments on coordinators for the Raiders.

And before you say that Gruden had as his Oakland Raiders Defensive Coordinator, Willie Shaw, who’s African American, I have to tell you the Raiders fired Shaw in 2000, and the two are not on good terms according to online accounts. Shaw improved the Raiders Defense from 20th to 10th, but it seemed Gruden may have chafed at Shaw’s desire to be a head coach himself. That’s something he would have to address – if he wanted to. I’m wondering if Gruden’s a Trump supporter, given that he backed Romney against Obama in 2012?

Stay tuned.

Jon Gruden Oakland Raiders Head Coach Target According To ESPN Reports

Jon Gruden Oakland Raiders Head Coach Target According To ESPN Reports

The Oakland Raiders are reportedly going to target John Gruden as the next head coach. I can see how this story came about: Mark Davis talked to someone and then that person tipped ESPN. Davis has a way of making comments that indicate a bold move. He did this with me, when he asked me to come up with a plan for a stadium for Oakland.

But ESPN reporters Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen say this time it’s different and that Davis is more intent on making an offer. Gruden says only that he’s talked to people, but that’s it. Nothing firm.

CES 2018 Las Vegas Wearable Tech Summit January 11th Sands Expo Level 2, Hall A-D #CES2018

NEW YORK, Dec. 28, 2017 Press Release from CEA — Technology changes as quickly as fashion trends these days. Put the two together and you’ve got a perplexing landscape. What technologies do people really want to wear on their bodies? What do they want to do with those technologies? And how do we overcome the barriers to making wearable tech a no-brainer? All of these questions and more will be addressed during the second annual Wearable Tech Summit at CES 2018 on Thursday, January 11th.

“With shrinking footprints, new flexible and woven materials, advances in battery life, new interfaces like voice and gesture, and a collaborative cloud of data, wearable technology is heading towards its next plateau. We’re predicting that wearables in the workplace will get a major boost this year, as will a host of IoT wearables designed to keep you safe and healthier. Debates will spark around privacy as more and more companies use wearables to track everything from exercise to access at the workplace,” said Robin Raskin, founder and president, Living in Digital Times.

This year’s can’t-miss sessions at the Wearable Tech Summit include:

A look at how wearables are moving away from “geeky” and toward “fashion-forward” with experts from ELLE magazine, Heisel, Fossil Group and Ashley Chloe.
The Top Five Wearable Trends of 2018 with Xenoma, Interaxon (Muse) and Google.
Wearables that keep you safer and healthier with insight from Nuheara, ShotDoctor, Euromonitor International, Tractive GmbH and TrackR.
A discussion about wearables for safety and security in the workplace moderated by Piers Fawkes, Founder & President, PSFK.
Dr. Amanda Parkes shares her work on future-forward wearables.

The half-day conference is Thursday, January 11, from 9 AM to 12:30 PM at Tech West (Venetian, Level 4, Lando 4302). To view the full conference agenda, visit here. Be sure to also visit the Wearables Marketplace to see wearable products from more than 50 exhibitors in action including the latest fitness devices, connected fashion accessories, wearable payment devices and innovative health-related wearables. Products will be shown all four days of CES 2018, located at Tech West, Sands, Level 2, Hall A-D.

St. Louis Judge In Rams LA NFL Relocation Lawsuit Just Gave Oakland Gift In Raiders Case

St. Louis Circuit Court Judge Christopher McGraugh did the City of Oakland and the County of Alameda a giant solid in his denial of the NFL’s pre-trail motion to dismiss various aspects of the lawsuit brought against it for the approval of the St. Louis Rams move to Los Angeles.

On Wednesday, Judge McGraugh allowed city of St. Louis, St. Louis County and the Regional Convention and Sports Complex Authority claims of breach of contract to stand as the basis for what may be a court trial unless the League elects to settle with the parties. What I will collectively call The City of St Louis argues that the NFL violated its own relocation policy in the process of approving the St. Louis Rams move, and thus were guilty of a breach of contract.

Since San Diego and Oakland were part of the same triangle of actions the NFL undertook to relocate the San Diego Chargers, the St. Louis Rams, and the Oakland Raiders, and all referred to the same relocation policy as a contract the NFL itself did not follow, what happened in St. Louis opens the door to what could be winable lawsuits in San Diego and particularly in Oakland.

“Foreover Oakland”, a coalition of Raiders fans that secured two top sports lawyers, and tried to get the City of Oakland and Alameda County to join it, were initially rebuffed because the Oakland elected officials were concerned they may lose the court battle and be on the hook for millions of dollars. But Wednesday’s actions in St. Louis will cause the NFL to produce potentially damaging communications that would strengthen Oakland’s case.

So, let’s see what the NFL does: go ahead with what will be a damaging defense process, or settle – and that settlement would open the door for similar actions in Oakland and San Diego.

Stay tuned.
