Ricky Henderson, the Oakland’s A’s Hall-Of-Famer, will join Marshawn Lynch, the Oakland Raiders’ legendary standout running back, and Cal-Berkeley alumni and star who’s with Joshua Johnson and Marcus Peters of the Fam1stFoundation, Alamada County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley, Alicia Garza of Black Lives Matter, Barbara Leslie of The Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, and Oakland vlogger Zennie Abraham of Zennie62Media, as honorees at the East Bay Innovation Academy’s “Innovator Awards”, May 17th 2018, 7:30 PM, Oakland Rotunda, 300 Frank H Ogawa Plaza, at 16th and Broadway.
The East Bay Innovation Academy, established by Laurie Jacobson Jones with Rochelle (Shelley) Benning and with campuses in Downtown Oakland and the Oakland Hills, has as its vision “rethinking how schools are run and structured, so that they better reflect the needs of a 21st century world. Most schools have not changed their structure, organization, facilities or instruction in over 50 years. While schools have not changed, our world has, leaving many of our schools, even the “best” ones, behind. Regarding the 2018 “Innovator Awards”, EBIA reports “Central to the unique and innovative culture EBIA has created our own innovator norms: Perseverance, Curiosity, Kindness, Respect, Conscientiousness, Citizenship and Leadership. These norms guide the development of our young innovators and will help them grow to become the next generation of leaders in STEAM and other fields. On Thursday, May 17th, 2018, EBIA will launch the inaugural Innovator Awards to recognize some of the current innovative leaders and change agents who serve as role models for our students and our community. This major fundraiser for the school will be held at The Rotunda in Downtown Oakland and will celebrate those who inspire us all by living these innovator norms every day.
